Posted on October 19, 2024 by L. L. CoblePhoto of the Day Going almost undetected, the Brown Creeper quietly probes the bark for spiders and tiny insects, as well as their eggs, larvae, and pupae. These unique little birds are rare breeders in the lower Susquehanna valley, finding larger tracts of forest to our north more to their liking. Now is perhaps the best time of year to find them, while their southbound migration reaches its peak. Small numbers of Brown Creepers stick around through winter, somehow finding enough to eat among the cracks and crevices of the tree trunks.
